In 2017, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Nursing Services (ONS) recognized the need to increase the cadence of disseminating standardized implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP). Fortunately, the ONS Director of Research and EBP was invited to the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice’s ( the Fuld ) inaugural National Summit at The Ohio State University. Subsequently, members of the national nursing leadership team attended an immersion at the Dayton, Ohio Veterans Affairs Medical Center. This exposure and experience ignited a leadership commitment to fund a strategic initiative to develop EBP mentors at each VA medical center site in collaboration with the Fuld.

The Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice (EBP) in Nursing and Healthcare at The Ohio State University College of Nursing recognized Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York Thursday with its first-ever designation recognizing outstanding EBP processes and healthcare outcomes, essential elements for reaching the Quadruple Aim in healthcare.
During the first full day of the Fuld Institute for EBP’s virtual national summit with more than 300 participants, MSK received the Excellence in Evidence-based Practice and Outcomes in Healthcare designation at the Gold level. That means that MSK met or exceeded 90% of the established criteria. Criteria are judged in four areas:
Organization profile: environment, mission/vision/strategic plan, EBP model and framework Organizational leadership: EBP competence in clinicians, leadership role models for evidence-based decision making, integration of EBP, empowerment and recognition of EBP-related work Infrastructures and processes: educated EBP mentors, inter-professional support, alignment and integration of EBP in process/quality improvement and research, ensuring implementation and sustainability of EBP initiatives Outcomes: enhanced patient experience, improved population health, reduced costs,...National cohort of eight selected for inaugural Doctor of Nursing Practice Postdoctoral Fellowship

COLUMBUS, OH – The Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice (EBP) in Nursing and Healthcare in The Ohio State University College of Nursing is proud to announce the launch of its Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Postdoctoral Fellowship.
After a highly competitive application and review process, eight individuals were chosen to comprise the inaugural cohort, representing nursing leadership, clinical practice and academia.

The PRO-RES Project: PROmoting Ethics and Integrity in all Non-Medical RESearch - from Ideas to Outcomes WHEN: Wednesday, July 28 1-2 p.m. WHERE: Zoom The Fuld Institute for EBP is excited to invite you to register for a webinar event explaining the Guidance Framework produced by PRO-RES, a European Commission funded project. This framework will be of benefit to the full range of stakeholders who have an interest in producing evidence that can influence policymakers in their decision making. Thus, for example, researchers and healthcare professionals can see how best to marshal their evidence-gathering to ensure evidence is ethically generated and shared. At the same time, researchers can be better placed to assess the kinds of evidence used by policymakers - gaining assurance that the evidence has been sourced with integrity and holding policymakers accountable if not.

Fuld Institute for EBP awards 2021 grants

The Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice (EBP) in Nursing and Healthcare awarded six grants in 2021.
The grants were awarded to James Dilleshaw, BSN, RN, DNP candidate, of the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing; Jiale Hu, PhD, RN, of Virginia Commonwealth University; Letha M. Joseph, DNP, APRN, AGPCNP-BC, of the Community Living Center Durham, VA Healthcare System; Kerry King, MSN, RN, OCN®, of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; Tiffany Messerall, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, RNC-OB, of OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital and Lindsey Patton, MSN, APRN, PCNS-BC 1, of Texas Christian University and Children’s Health System of Texas for EBP initiatives and research projects.
Dilleshaw was awarded approximately $1,000 for his EBP initiative titled, “A Shared Decision-making (SDM) Program for Patients with Type 2 Diabetes at a Free Medical Clinic.” A SDM program will help patients in selecting medication for their type II diabetes or assist in initiating statin therapy as recommended.
