The EBP Certificate is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC). It is also recognized by Magnet® on their approved list of certifications/certificates. The EBP Certificate Holder demonstrates expertise in EBP methodology and the EBP competencies.
The EBP Certification (EBP-C) demonstrates expertise in the EBP Mentor Role. It is based on EBP methodologies, EBP competencies, and the Role Delineation Study that was conducted for the expert EBP Mentor. The EBP Certification is not accredited, and we are unable to pursue accreditation at this time.
- Component 1: Demonstrated completion of EBP coursework (within the last five years).
- Component 2: Demonstrated EBP knowledge through content review and successful testing.
- Component 3: Approval of submitted portfolio demonstrating the application of EBP methodology and knowledge of an evidence-based practice change initiative (EBP or EBQI).
- All qualifying education must be completed before registration*. After education requirements have been approved, you can complete the program process in 3-6 months, with extensions as needed. This allows for the submission of coursework, up to three attempts on the knowledge test, and one resubmission of portfolio items. You still must meet all required response times on components to maintain progress through the program.
- The entire process could take you about a month from registration through completion if you have valid coursework, register for, take, and pass the knowledge test as soon as possible, and submit all elements of the portfolio as soon as possible. However, 3 months is a reasonable and expected time frame for completion of all elements.
- You may have up to 6 months to complete all elements if needed. Again, you still must meet all required response times on components to maintain progress through the program. Candidates who have not completed all elements of the process in 6 months after paying the initial registration fee will need to submit a new application and payment of fees to restart the process.
