We love hearing how our immersion participants are making a difference in their organizations! Check out what Miami Cancer Institute is doing to promote EBP!
“Miami Cancer Institute opened its doors on January 16, 2017, merging multiple oncology practices and disciplines under one roof to provide comprehensive cancer care to patients in South Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean. To help further build and define its culture after opening, Miami Cancer Institute recently held its first multidisciplinary Shared Governance Council (SGC) Retreat on August 7, 2017. Tools, resources and information learned during the second cohort of the Center for Transdisciplinary Evidence-based Practice (CTEP) program, hosted by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center June 26-30, 2017, were used to educate the 48 attendees about EBP. Staff learned about each of the six easy steps to EBP, how to define PICOT questions, elements of PICOT questions, types of PIOCT questions and levels of evidence. For the attendees of the CTEP program in June, the materials shared made explaining EBP to a mixed group of clinical and non-clinical staff very easy and relatable. The group also learned about setting measurable goals and outcomes, benchmarking, data collection, evaluating their progress and disseminating their SGC work and project results.
The staff left the program energized and prepared to begin their SGC and choose their first EBP project. Moving forward, as the lead executives responsible for shared governance and EBP proliferation at Miami Cancer Institute, we will meet monthly with the SGC committee chairs to provide support and mentorship as they grow into their roles and develop and implement their EBP projects.”
Congratulations, Miami Cancer Institute! Keep working hard to spread EBP!
