Lynn Gallagher-Ford is senior director and clinical core director of the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare, and clinical associate professor, College of Nursing, all at The Ohio State University, where her work is dedicated to research, education and consultation focused on the development, promotion, integration, implementation and sustainability of evidence-based practice in both academic and clinical settings.
Gallagher-Ford’s clinical background in maternal-child health and nursing administration spans 30 years. She served in a variety of roles ranging from bedside clinician to chief nursing officer, in which she gained extensive experience and expertise in teaching and implementing evidence-based practice in real-world clinical settings.
Gallagher-Ford is currently active as a consultant, facilitator and keynote presenter at national and international conferences and education programs.
She co-edited the book Implementing the EBP Competencies in Healthcare; A Practical Guide for Improving Quality, Safety & Outcomes.
Her publications include co-authorship of multiple studies that have dramatically impacted the current body of knowledge about evidence-based practice and influenced strategic imperatives to address new challenges.

Victor M. Montori, MD is a Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic. An endocrinologist and health services researcher, Dr. Montori is the author of more than 600 peer‐reviewed publications and is among the top 1% of researchers with most cited papers in clinical medicine worldwide in the last decade. He is a Senior Advisor in the Center for Evidence and Practice Improvement at the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research of the US Government. He also serves in the Editorial Advisory Board of the BMJ, and as Director of Late Stage Translational Research at the Mayo Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Jacqueline Hoying, PhD, RN, Assistant Professor of Practice, MINDSTRONG Director, and Consumer Core Director, Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-Based Practice, all at The Ohio State University. A behavioral intervention researcher, Dr. Hoying studies interventions to promote overall health and well-being, promote mental resilience, and reduce stress, anxiety, and depression principally among college-age young adults, health professionals, and adults. Her interventions include cognitive behavioral interventions with a focus on cognitive behavioral skills building techniques, which she teaches and studies. Presently serving as Co-Investigator in a NIH-funded RO1, she is a recognized expert in cognitive behavioral research and trains professionals nationally to deliver the evidence-based program, MINDSTRONG.
Dr. Hoying is a senior executive leader with 25 years in healthcare administration serving in a variety of high level diverse leadership experiences including chief nursing officer, health system executive, and administrative lead for evidence-based nursing practice and research. As an executive nursing leader, she led the team in a successful competitive application for the coveted designated Magnet Recognition Award for Excellence in Nursing Service (Awarded by American Nurses Credentialing Center –ANCC). In addition, Dr. Hoying led a high-performing team to pursue evidence-based practice and receive trauma designation, becoming the First Level III Trauma designated hospital in the state of Ohio.
Dr. Hoying has published in peer reviewed journals and has presented nationally and internationally on cognitive behavior research. Linda Connor, PhD, RN, CPN, is a post-doctoral researcher at The Ohio State University. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston in May 2017, earning a nursing PhD with a focus in health policy. She has over 40 years of acute care experience in both pediatric and adult critical care, emergency room trauma, and perioperative nursing. Prior to moving to Columbus, Ohio, she was a nurse at Boston Children's Hospital in the Perioperative Program. She mentored staff nurses in evidenced-based practice (EBP), professional advancement, and performed pre-anesthesia chart reviews for day-surgery patients. She is a facilitator for the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare immersions. Linda is an adjunct faculty for the graduate nursing program at Rasmussen College.
Linda is a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), and the Society of Pediatric Nursing (SPN). Her previous areas of research include pediatric sedation, quality care, and family-centered care. For the past 18 years, Linda has educated staff nurses and student nurses about the EBP process. More recently, Linda and a colleague developed an instrument for measuring nurses’ knowledge, values and implementation of EBP. The results of this work have been published in the Journal of Nursing Education and Practice 2016 and Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing 2017. This instrument was included in her dissertation for further psychometric testing in association with health policies. Her current goal is to expand her research in the areas of EBP and policy.
Sharon Tucker, PhD, RN, APRN-CNS, F-NAP, FAAN, Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Director - Nurse Executive and Grayce Sills Endowed Professor in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, College of Nursing, and Implementation Science Core Director, Helene Fuld Heath Trust National Institute for Evidence-Based Practice, all at The Ohio State University. A board (ANCC) certified adult psychiatric mental health clinical nurse specialist and behavioral researcher, Dr. Tucker studies interventions to promote health and wellness, prevent disease, and reduce stress and risks among families, particularly among working mothers and children. Her interventions include environmental strategies, cognitive behavioral interventions, and motivational interviewing, which she teaches and studies.
Dr. Tucker is a recognized expert in evidence-based practice (EBP), implementation science, and quality improvement. She served as director of research, EBP and quality for two Magnet-designated, large hospitals in academic medical centers (University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Mayo Clinic) for 15 years prior to joining OSU in 2017. Research and EBP outcomes were recognized by the Magnet surveyors as exemplary for both hospitals. Dr. Tucker led her team at the University of Iowa (UI) Hospitals and Clinics in the writing of a successful competitive application for the prestigious Magnet Prize, which was awarded in 2014 for their legacy work in EBP. In partnership with the UI College of Nursing, they were also awarded recognitions for collaborative partnerships by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing in 2014 and the Midwest Nursing Research Society in 2017.
Dr. Tucker developed and published the Evidence-Based Practice Self-Efficacy Scale in 2009, and since tracking its use beginning in 2013, the scale has been requested over 1340 times coming from 30 countries. She is co-author of two books on EBP, one published in 2008 titled Evidence-based nursing care guidelines: Medical-surgical interventions (St. Louis, MO: Mosby Elsevier) and one just published titled Evidence-based practice in action: Comprehensive strategies, tools and tips from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (Indianapolis: Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing). She has written multiple papers and chapters on EBP and implementation aimed to advance safe, high quality clinical nursing care.
Dr. Tucker earned her BSN from the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minnesota, a MSN from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, and her PhD in Nursing from Rush University in Chicago. Jennifer Dean is an EBP Coordinator at the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare. She graduated from The Ohio State University with her Doctorate of Nursing Practice as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP). She has eight years of acute care nursing experience that ranges from medical-surgical to neurological critical care. She is board certified as an AGACNP and currently practices full time in a medical ICU in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to her work in Ohio, she was a staff nurse in central Florida and was devoted to moving EBP forward within her organization through nursing shared governance. As the Chief Nursing Officer for University Hospital and the Department of Medical Surgical and Women and Infants, Dr. Buck has oversight for the nursing practice and clinical operations for the departments. Her clinical background resides in Maternal–Child Health and Nursing Administration, where she has served in a variety of roles ranging from staff nurse, assistant professor, director of nursing, to nursing administrator in various medical settings. Recently, Dr. Buck was the director of nursing for the women and infants department. Dr. Kathleen Williamson PhD, MSN, RN, is the Academic Dean at Mount Carmel College of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Williamson is the Chief Academic Officer of the College. Dónal P. O’Mathúna, PhD, is Associate Professor in the College of Nursing, Helene Fuld Heath Trust National Institute for Evidence-Based Practice at The Ohio State University and Associate Professor in the School of Nursing & Human Sciences, Dublin City University, Ireland. His degrees are in pharmacy and ethics, with research interests focused on both evidence-based practice (EBP) and healthcare ethics. His EBP activities have focused on systematic reviews with the Cochrane Collaboration, and he was director of Cochrane Ireland from 2014 to 2017. He has conducted systematic review training in Ireland, the UK, and the USA, and is co-author on a number of systematic reviews in the Cochrane Library. His ethics research has focused on disasters and humanitarian crises, most recently being co-editor of Disasters: Core Concepts and Ethical Issues (Springer 2018). He is the Principal Investigator on funded research projects examining research ethics in the context of disasters and humanitarian crises. He has contributed to ethics initiatives and guidelines with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the UN agency for disaster risk reduction (UNISDR). As the director of a new virtual Center for Disaster & Humanitarian Ethics, he is developing practical tools and support strategies to facilitate ethical reflection within evidence-generation activities in humanitarian and disaster settings. He has spoken and published widely, including peer-reviewed articles in The Lancet, Bioethics, BMC Medical Ethics, Journal of Evidence-Based Medicine, and Worldviews on Evidence-based Nursing.

Penelope F. Gorsuch, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, EBP-C, FACHE, USAF Col (ret), clinical core assistant director, the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare, and assistant professor of clinical practice, College of Nursing, all at The Ohio State University. Dr. Gorsuch is a retired Colonel from the United States Air Force (USAF) with 28 years of service in numerous clinical and leadership positions and served as the Associate Director of Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive for the Dayton Veteran’s Administration (VA) Medical Center. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has recognized Dr. Gorsuch as a Content Expert in Evidence-based Practice (EBP) and she has earned the designation of Evidence-based Practice Certificate (EBP-C) holder from the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification. From 2014-2017, she was adjunct faculty for Wright State University College of Nursing and served on their Academic and Strategic Planning Board. She is the Primary Investigator on an EBP TriService Nursing Research Grant entitled: “Impact of Formal Education on Evidence-based Practice Competence of Nurse Teams.” In 2018, Gorsuch achieved Fellow status by attaining her FACHE credential through the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Susan designs and develops projects and programs to support the core operations of the Fuld Institute for Evidence-based Practice including large, long-term and multilevel projects, national events, international agreements, and new programs. She also coordinates continuing education (CE) for Fuld Institute programs and marketing.Susan received a bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish with a minor in Political Science from Capital University. She has two master’s degrees from The Ohio State University, the first in Cultural Anthropology and the second in Higher Education and Student Affairs.
Kara is the Administrative Associate for the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare. In her role, she is the first point of contact and resource for callers and visitors to the Fuld Institute for EBP. Kara organizes schedules, travel, and conference attendance and keeps daily operations running smoothly. Kara has been at the university since 2018.
As Chief of Strategic Partnerships, Laurel builds relationships to advance the College of Nursing and the university’s health and wellness efforts at the local, state, national, international levels. Wendy Bowles serves in the role of the Assistant Dean for Baccalaureate Programs at The Ohio State University. She has embraced evidence-based practice since her early days as a nurse over twenty years ago and subsequently as a nurse practitioner. She began her journey in nursing education in 2005 and realized the importance of educating future nurses for current practice environments relying on the most current evidence for decision making. She is committed to advancing the science of evidence-based pedagogies of teaching and learning in nursing education. Her research includes work with alternative pedagogies, curricular development, and student engagement. Inga earned her PhD in Nursing Science from The Ohio State University after receiving her MSN, Nurse Practitioner with a focus on adult health, primary care from Wayne State University and BSN from Michigan State. Inga’s nursing career began with serving patients in the surgical step-down and surgical ICU settings. She has worked as a Nurse Practitioner in primary care and pre-admission testing. In her clinical educator role, she promoted evidence-based practice and the Magnet™ accreditation process. Inga has mentored teams of interprofessional staff conducting evidence-based practice projects and nursing research in hospital settings. Inga’s dissertation work explored contributing factors to patient safety and adverse events in the hospital setting. She has numerous publications related to patient safety, safe patient handling and mobility, and health information technology. Cindy Beckett, PhD, RNC-OB, LCCE, CHRC, LSS-BB is the Director of Evidence-based Practice (EBP) Certificate Program at the Fuld Institute, and an associated faculty assistant professor of clinical practice at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. She is directing efforts at the Fuld to implement a transdisciplinary value-based certificate in Evidence-Based Practice.
Dr. Beckett has been a nurse for over 38 years. During that time, she has worked in many roles from staff nurse, charge nurse, manager, director, educator, faculty, and researcher. Dr. Beckett has mentored and supported students, medical and nursing residents, healthcare providers and researchers across the spectrum of experience in clinical research and EBP for over 18 years. She is an expert mentor for Evidence-Based Practice; teaching graduate students at Arizona State University, The Ohio State University College and Nursing and immersion students through the Center for Transdisciplinary Evidence-Based Practice (CTEP), now FULD, on EBP change projects to improve practice and patient outcomes, and to demonstrate value added strategies that also produce strong return on investment (ROI).
Dr. Beckett served as the Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) coordinator for THRIVE (Translating Health Research Initiatives for Population Health) collaborations between clinicians and researchers across NAH and Northern Arizona University (NAU) for 5 years. In this role, she matched clinicians with researchers to respond to requests for proposals from intermural and extramural funding sources. She managed research/EBP funds for pilot/preliminary studies focusing on population health, and patient outcomes research.
Bindu is the Technology & Research Coordinator for the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare. In her role she coordinates the technology needs for all the Fuld Institute for EBP programs including clinical and academic immersions. She helps with design, development and management of the online programs offered through the Fuld Institute for EBP and the maintenance and design of the website. She also provides support to conduct research projects related to EBP, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of each project.
Molly McNett, PhD, RN, CNRN, FNCS, is a Professor of Clinical Nursing in the College of Nursing at The Ohio State University and Assistant Director of the Implementation Science Core of the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). Dr. McNett’s research centers on care of critically ill patients after neurological injury. In her work, she has led funded, multi-site, national trials and routinely participates in international trials with diverse research teams. She is widely published in peer reviewed journals, has authored several evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, and presents nationally on research and evidence-based care for patients after devastating neurological injuries.
Dr. McNett also leads international, interdisciplinary guideline development groups in critically synthesizing the research literature to generate meaningful practice recommendations for several professional organizations. She has over a decade of experience working with leadership teams in health systems to apply research findings and EBP recommendations to practice and create infrastructures for ongoing monitoring of outcomes. Dr. McNett has led numerous interdisciplinary task forces to integrate key components of research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives into healthcare settings.
Dr. McNett’s work has earned her several awards including fellowship distinction from the Neurocritical Care Society, the Ohio Nurse of the Year Award for Research, Excellence in Performance from Sigma Theta Tau International, multiple Presidential Citations from the Neurocritical Care Society, several writing awards, and consecutive recognitions for exemplar programs of research and EBP from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. Arlene S. Bierman is director of AHRQ’s Center for Evidence and Practice Improvement, which consists of the Evidence-based Practice Center Program; the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force Program; the Division of Decision Science and Patient Engagement; the Division of Health Information Technology, Division of Practice Improvement and the National Center for Excellence in Primary Care Research. Dr. Bierman is a general internist, geriatrician and health services researcher, whose work has focused on improving access, quality and outcomes of healthcare for older adults with chronic illness in disadvantaged populations. As a tenured professor, she held appointments in health policy, evaluation and management; public health; medicine and nursing at the University of Toronto, where she was the inaugural holder of the Ontario Women's Health Council Chair in Women's Health, and as a senior scientist in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael's Hospital. She received her medical doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, where she was a Morehead Fellow. She completed fellowships in outcomes research at Dartmouth Medical School, and community and preventive medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She also served as an Atlantic Philanthropies Health and Aging Policy Fellow/American Political Science Foundation Congressional Fellow.

Alex R. Kemper will be division chief of ambulatory pediatrics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and professor of pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine beginning August 1, 2017. Dr. Kemper completed his pediatric residency training at Duke University, follo wed by combined fellowship training in health services research and medical informatics with residency training in preventive medicine at the University of North Carolina. In 2000, Dr. Kemper joined the faculty at the University of Michigan, where he devel oped an active research program evaluating the delivery and outcomes of preventive services. In 2006, Dr. Kemper returned to Duke University, where he expanded his work related to pediatric preventive services, serving as Chair of the Condition Review Work group for the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children and as a consultant to Bright Futures. Dr. Kemper is also a member of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. In 2011, he joined the executive editorial board of Pediatrics and developed a new section for the journal focusing on quality improvement. In 2013, he was appointed deputy editor of Pediatrics . In addition to these activities, Dr. Kemper has a long track record of mentorship, both within his institution and in partnership with the Academic Pediatric Association, where he serves as co - director of the Research Scholars Program.
